3. Lost in Translation
Backstory
When messaging my Airbnb host to confirm if I would be able to enter my room late at night I got an interesting response in English:
No problem, I’ll put it in ^_^
That’s when I realized our messages were being automatically translated. I quickly switched off the translations and discovered the underlying message:
入れます (hairemasu, you can enter)
Which can also be read as iremasu, which means “able to put it in.” Therefore the translation, although wildly inappropriate and out of context, was actually correct.
