Backstory
On the way to Japan I sat next to an Asian man. During the inflight drink service, the Japanese Cabin Attendant (CA) asked the man お飲み物はいかがですか – what would you like to drink? The Asian man, confused, stared at the CA. The CA then realized her mistake and asked the man again, in English.
She then turned to me and asked me in English – What would you like to drink? I ordered a whiskey neat, in Japanese. The CA was very pleasantly surprised. We spoke for many hours during the flight. At the end of my flight she gave me a small gift as a thank you.
